He further stated that ‘India was one of the first in Asia to recognize the effectiveness of the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) model in promoting exports, with Asia’s first EPZ set up in Kandla in 1965. With a view to overcome the shortcomings experienced on account of the multiplicity of controls and clearances; absence of world-class infrastructure, and an unstable fiscal regime and with a view to attract larger foreing investments in India, the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) Policy was announced in April 2000.” One should follow respected regulations assaigned by the Government of India, he added. A Single window procedure is simple for setting up units and maintenance of development, operations at SEZ. Development Commissioner's office is supporting existing and new ones at VSEZ, he added. Opportunities are more for talent in all sections in SEZs at IT, ITES, Agro based, Bio-Tech, Aviation / Aerospace, Pharma, Multi product based units. Mr. Pola Bhaskar of Commercial Taxes mentioned the role of State Government for allocating lands to SEZs, and there is a negative thought in public regarding SEZs especially in land acquitions, rehabilitation, etc. Local bodies have more response to clear all such obstacles towards the development, he added.
