"Cloud Computing and Virtualization is the way ahead in IT ".

Computer Society of India Visakhapatnam chapter, today, at Daspalla Hotel, conducted a Technical talk on “Cloud Computing and Virtualization is the way ahead in IT “. This is an initiative of CSI Vizag chapter in promoting Green IT . Cloud Computing is Internet-based computing, whereby shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices on demand, like the grid. Details are abstracted from the users, who no longer have need for expertise in, or control over, the technology infrastructure "in the cloud" that supports them. Cloud computing describes a new supplement, consumption, and delivery model for IT services based on the Internet, and it typically involves over-the-Internet provision of dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources. Individual users need not procure the software time to time instead they can use the services provided by the service provider. Desktop virtualization (sometimes called client virtualization), as a concept, separates a personal computer desktop environment from a physical machine using a client–server model of computing. The model stores the resulting "virtualized" desktop on a remote central server, instead of on the local storage of a remote client; thus, when users work from their remote desktop client, all of the programs, applications, processes, and data used are kept and run centrally. This promotes green IT by consuming less electricity and economic affordability for any user . There is no recurring cost for the software and upgrades can be used without any extra cost. This reduces the power consumption by 1/3 rd for each Computer thus promoting Green IT.The talk was delivered by Mr.Ali Ahmed, Solution Architect, M/s Verity Information Solutions Hyderabad. He was supported by Mr. Gourav Mahindra, Business Executive from M/s Verity Information Solutions Hyderabad. This Programme has started with the lighting of the lamp by Prof. DBV Sarma ,Regional Vice-president, CSI-HQ.Sri Paramata Satyanarayan,Honorary Secretary , CSI Visakhapatnam Chapter delivered the welcome address and explained the annual plan(2010-11) of the committee to all CSI members. Kondaiah of VITAM , Prof. SR Gollapudi of GITAM were also present .On this occasion Prof. Avadhani suggested the members present to promote Green IT in their organizations. PM’s Trophy Team’s Pat for VSP

The Assessors team visiting VSP for assessing the best integrated steel plant for PM’s trophy for the year 2008-09 complimented VSP for steering the organization successfully despite global recession in 2008-09. The year 2008-09 was a story of two contrasting halves with a very upbeat first half with more than average growth and the next half ravaged by the global financial meltdown during which the entire first half performance was eroded. In VSP the net realization plunged by 25% due to the sudden and steep fall in prices where as the cost of production increased by 26% due to sharp increase in prices of input materials. Such a scenario threw before the leadership of RINL-VSP, the tremendous challenge of steering the organization through the tumultuous year. In such scenario cost reduction was of paramount importance and focus was on savings through improvement in techno-economic parameters, recovery and recycling of waste and other financial interventions. While world over leaders grappled with problem of keeping on-going projects in abeyance leaders at RINL-VSP took an unwavering stand on future needs and pursued growth plans with vigour and perseverance. RINL-VSP took the global recession as a challenge and converted it into an opportunity for rejuvenating some of its ageing equipments. RINL’s turn over for the year was Rs 10,414 Crs almost same as that of 2007-08 which was Rs 10443 Crs. The thrust on sale of ‘value added steel ‘helped RINL- VSP to serve the increasing customer base of actual users with a sale of 19.81 lakh tons in the year 2008-09, a growth of 8% over 2007-08. A significant achievement had been the reduction of inventory by 6 lakh tons in the last quarter of 2008-09. Joint Ventures and strategic alliances were carried out with various companies and discussions were held with certain governments for captive mines. RINL- VSP could also retain its supremacy in techno-economic areas of specific raw material consumption, specific water consumption, energy consumption and labour productivity in 2008-09 in the Indian steel industry. The team met Mr. PK Bishnoi, CMD of RINL and held brief discussions with him and later witnessed a corporate Presentation on RINL-VSP’s performance for the year 2008-09 in which Directors, CVO and other senior officials were present.
