Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope, Commander-in-Chief Royal Fleet (CINCFLEET) of the Royal Navy arrived Visakhapatnam on 18th March, 2009 on a two day visit to the Eastern Naval Command. He called on Vice Admiral Nirmal Verma, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command at the Headquarters on 19th March, 2009 and was briefed on the role and functions of the Eastern Naval Command. The Admiral accompanied by the Commander-in-Chief undertook a Harbour cruise later. Apart from visiting some ships and submarines of the Command, Admiral Sir Stanhope also paid a visit to the Naval Dockyard prior departing Visakhapatnam.

Abdul Kalam visited Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar At the very outset, he emphasized the unique quality about Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba which is “Whatever Baba promises, He will do it”. He also quoted Swami’s message saying “What we believe, we must do”. Being the students of Sai Institute, He called upon the students that they should carry knowledge with them even after they pass out of the school. 

“Knowledge = Creativity + Righteousness (preached by Bhagawan Baba) + courage, Dr. Kalam added. These can be achieved only through father, mother and Primary School teacher.

Bharat Ratna and Former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam visited Sri Sathya Sai Vidya ViharCourage leads to success in one’s mission. He concluded by making everybody present there to take an oath of living an honest life without resorting to any sort of corruption. In an interactive session with the students Dr. Kalam asked them about their ambitions and appreciated them for their zeal in choosing the noble professions. He expressed confidence that the students of Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar will emerge as jewels in the years ahead. He complimented the school as a great institution and encouraged all the students participating in the interaction session.  The Members of the Governing body, Principal, Staff and students and a large gathering of senior citizens were present on it occasion.

ENC SNOW SKIING EXPEDITION FLAGGED OFFAn fifteen member team of the Eastern Naval Command 'Snow Skiing Expedition' was flagged off on 12 March, 2009, by Commodore Rajesh Sarin, Commodore Commanding Submarines (East). The team of three officers and 12 sailors drawn from various ships and establishments of the Eastern Naval Command is led by Commander P Agnihotri. The camp is being organised by INS Virbahu, the mother Base of all submarines on the Eastern Seaboard.

ENC SNOW SKIING EXPEDITION FLAGGED OFFIn the course of their 14 day expedition being conducted under the auspices of Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN), the team will route via Haridwar to establish its Base Camp at Joshimath in Uttaranchal, and undergo basic training that will teach them the requisite skills. They will thereafter proceed by Rope way to the main camp at Auli, situated in Chamoli District, 16 km from Joshimath, to undertake snow skiing at an altitude of over 3000 feet. In the course of their highly challenging and adventurous expedition, the team members will be interacting with various people from the hinterland and spreading awareness about the role and significance of the Indian Navy.

The Expedition is a part of the regular adventure activities undertaken all through the year by the Command, with the intention of promoting the spirit of adventure, apart from building physical endurance and esprit de corps among the Naval personnel.
