The Navy Mela, a Naval Exhibition by units of the Eastern Naval Command and local business houses was inaugurated by Vice Admiral Nirmal Verma, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, Visakhapatnam at the Navy Mela Grounds on 27th November, 2008. The Event which is scheduled from 27th to 30th November, 08, opened with a colourful entertainment program presented by the children of Navy Children School and Kendriya Vidyalayas.

A Blood Donation Camp in collaboration with the Blood Bank of King George Hospital (KGH) was organised as part of Navy Week Celebrations at the Naval Dockyard Dispensary on 27 November, 08. Rear Admiral Raman Prabhat, Admiral Superintendent Naval Dockyard (Visakhapatnam) inaugurated the Camp. There was an overwhelming response from among uniformed and non-uniformed personnel, including ladies of the Naval communities. Over 300 personnel turned up to donate Blood and bridge the projected 40 percent gap between demand and supply of the life-giving fluid. Dr MVRJ Somayajulu, Superintendent KGH, extended his cooperation by providing the services of the hospital blood bank.

Work on the Asilmetta flyover in the city has begun. This flyover will come up between Vemanamandiram on the Asilmetta side and the DRM's Office covering a distance of 1.1 km.
