Unlike their maiden visit to the City of Destiny, when on the eve of their
World Cup match, a Pakistani had to help them locate the place on a map, this
time it was the third visit of the mighty Aussies to the Port city, and this
time the match was to be played against a resurgent India led by Saurav Ganguly.
The Prince of Calcutta, was playing at Vizag for the first time as India's
captain.
Harbajan Singh also made his debut here and put an end to Slater's run
scoring by claiming his wicket. Ponting and Slater had put up 206 runs for the
second wicket, while on their second visit to the port city, emulating
the show put up by the Waugh brothers when they scored 207 runs for the third
wicket on their first trip here.
The city has been host to a large number of great names in cricket - Anshuman
Gaekwad in 1987, Vengsarkar in 1988, Tendulkar in 1993, Azaruddhin in 1994 and
Rahul Dravid in 1998 led the Indian side against visiting teams at this venue.
There will be millions viewing the scene to see the icy cool of Steve Waugh,
the speed and rhythm of McGrath, the artistry of Mark Waugh, the class of
Tendulkar, the grace of Ganguly and the elegance of Laxman.
