If one were to sum up the life of the Maharjkumar of Vizianagaram fondly
known as Vizzy, it would be right to say that he breathed cricket and lived
cricket.
Vizzy was passionate about cricket and he did whatever he could to popularise
the sport. Being in the position he was, it was relatively easy for him to make
all his dreams come true. It is in honour of this great entrepreneur of cricket
that a stadium was made in his home town, Vizianagaram, which during those times
was all a part of Visakhapatnam.
Vizzy led India in Test cricket and later went onto become a cricket
administrator and commentator. He was later the President for the Board of
Control for Cricket in India and by being the representative of the Imperial
Cricket Conference, was largely responsible for India, Pakistan, New Zealand and
West Indies getting parity in voting with the other Test playing countries.
He loved doing commentaries for All India Radio and was very fond of coining
phrases on his own. He was a very benevolent man, who donated the Willingdon
pavilion at the Ferozeshahkotla stadium in Delhi.
His wealth and position did not prevent him from being warm and gracious to
the common man when they called on him in his palatial home or on the cricket
ground.
