Ploar Star club beats Sports Men

Polar Star Football Club beat Sports Men Football Club in a historical football match 7-6 in sudden death. The match was held at GVMC Stadium in Vizag city on Thursday. The football match between the two-century-old clubs of Vizag city was organised by Visakhapatnam District Football Association (VDFA), marking the commencement of a one-month long football feast as part of FIFA-2018 World Cup, (the 21st World Cup in Russia). The Sportsmen Club was established in 1902 and the Polar Star Football Club was established in 1911. The Goalkeeper of Polar Star Football Club made a save and the striker of the club succeeded in the winning penalty as Polar Star Football Club defeated Sports Men Club in the sudden death after a 0-0 draw in the historical match. In the shoot-out, five kicks went in for each team, paving the way for sudden death. President of AP football association and VDFA Kosaraju Gopalakrishna said that soccer lovers from various parts of the city thronged to the GVMC stadiums in spite of the hot and humid weather conditions to watch the thrilling match. Participating as the chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony of the match, district collector Pravin Kumar appreciated APFA and VDFA for promoting soccer by organising the match on the FIFA-2018 inauguration day. Pravin Kumar said that they are in a process to identify 10 acres of land to allocate to the VDFA for developing a green turn football ground in Vizag.
