The mood was ecstatic as over 7,000 students gathered at Swarna Bharathi Indoor Stadium to take part in the inaugural function of the annual GVMC Summer Coaching Camp that was kick-started here on Monday.

The 20-day camp was inaugurated by MLA P.V.G.R. Naidu and will have 46 different activities. GVMC Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan said this year 7,272 children from Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle and Bheemunipatnam have registered for the coaching camp. The events will be held at 200 venues and headed by 250 coaches.
The inaugural programme saw a spirited march past by a team of students followed by demonstrations of karate and roller skating. Director of Sports Y. Srinivas Rao and GVMC Additional Commissioner (general) G.V.V.S. Murthy were present.
Meanwhile, a summer camp on the environmental theme of Connect People to Nature being jointly organised by AP Pollution Control Board and Paryavarana Margadarsi Vaisakhi took off at Youth Hostel here on Monday. Around 60 children are participating in the camp that will go on till May 20.
The little green soldiers will be focussing on several environmental issues during the summer camp through an array of creative activities like dance, skit, songs and speeches on environmental theme. To encourage the children, Mr Rama Murthy, senior environmental engineer from APPCB visited the camp and appreciated the enthusiasm of the participants.
