Vizag Rushikonda beach is going to get Blue Flag certification

The Blue Flag is a certification issued by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) to a beach, marina, or sustainable boating tourism operator complying to the standards in quality, safety, environmental education and information, the provision of services and general environmental management criteria. The Blue Flag is a trademark owned by FEE which is a non-governmental organisation.

The Blue-Flag project was a pilot project announced by the Union ministry of environment and forests. Ministry has selected 12 beaches in India for this certification. Vizags Rushikonda beach is one of the 12 beaches selected across the country. The project involves addressing safety of beaches, quality of water, environmental management and environmental education. For this, the ministry will establish an effective solid waste management system, watch tower with experienced lifeguards to save people from drowning and installing solar power generating units. The quality of sea water is monitored by conducting tests on a monthly basis. The public are also being educated to keep the beach clean and a water purification plant has also been established to ensure that people do not carry water sachets or bottles to the beach.
