Man held for duping youth of Rs. 3.7 lakh

The Cyber Crime Police on Monday arrested a person on charge of duping a youngster of Rs. 3.7 lakh in the name of providing a personal loan.

The accused has been identified as S. Praveen (23), a native of Vasundhara near Meliaputti of Srikakulam district.

According to Cyber Crime Inspector V Gopinath, one N Satya Kiran Shasank (23) from the city came across an advertisement pertaining to personal loan which was allegedly posted by the accused in the social media.

"Mr. Shasank contacted the accused who allegedly promised that he would provide a personal loan for which Mr. Shasank needed to deposit some money as processing charge. Biting the bait, Mr. Shasank made an online transfer for Rs. 3.73 lakh to an account provided by the accused," the Inspector said, quoting the complaint. After receiving the amount, the accused allegedly cut contacts with Mr. Shasank.

Acting on the complainant lodged by Mr. Shashank, the Cyber Crime Police began investigation and arrested Praveen on Monday. The police also seized Rs. 59,600 and a cellphone from him. The accused has been remanded.

Meanwhile, Cyber Crime Inspector V. Gopinath appealed to the public not to fall prey to the fake loan advertisements appearing in the social media.
