Jail for two in fraud cases:

Second Additional Special Judge for CBI cases N. Ananda Rao pronounced judgments in 14 insurance fraud cases and convicted Chinta Chakrapani, the then Branch Manager of United India Insurance Co. Ltd., Mandapeta of East Godavari district, and Korukonda Naga Suri Satyanarayana (private person), Insurance Surveyor, Tanuku of West Godavari.

The allegation was that Chakrapani had entered into a criminal conspiracy with Satyanarayana and some other rice millers during 2003 and 2004 to cheat the UII in the matter of preferring/settling false marine cargo claims on rice bags, which were transported from Dwarapudi/Bikkavolu/Palakol and Kakinada Port to far places like Dimapur/New Guwahati by the railways.

In pursuance of the conspiracy, the rice millers preferred the false insurance claims even though there was no damage to the rice bags and Chakrapani, without obtaining the approval of the competent authority, deputed Satyanarayana to conduct a survey of the loss at Dimapur and New Guwahati. Satyanarayana submitted false survey reports without actually conducting a physical survey. Chakrapani abused his official position and settled the false claims.

Chakrapani, Satyanarayana and some rice millers caused wrongful loss to UII to the tune of Rs.6,78,000.

They were sentenced to jail in various cases on Tuesday. They were also ordered to pay a total fine of Rs.2.10 lakh each.
