Navy Week celebrations -2003

Good Response to Navy Mela and visits to Navy Ships:
As part of the Navy Week celebrations two major ships of the Eastern Fleet, INS Ranvir, a Guided Missile Destroyer and INS Kirch, an indigenously built
Missile Corvette, together with INS Sindhughosh, a frontline submarine of the Submarine Squadron at Visakhapatnam were kept open for
visits by organised groups of school children today. Over 2100 students
and accompanying staff from 37 schools at Visakhapatnam and the neighbourhood visited the ships and the submarine today.
The naval jetties here were beehives of activity as students, both boys and girls, queued for their turn to get onboard the ships and submarine. A carrier guidance cell for entry into the Navy was set up at the jetty for the benefit of students.

Among the 37 schools and educational institutions from which students visited the naval units were Tiny Tots Public School, Delhi Public School, Timpany, Sarda Public School, Tagarapuvalasa and Junior college at Penduruthy. The Officers and sailors of the naval ships and submarine explained various weapons and the
machinery onboard to the visiting students as well as the role of the ships. The naval ships and the submarine will remain open for the general public on Saturday and Sunday from
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The entrance for the naval jetty where the ships and submarine are berthed is through the Pallava gate, located close to the Pipe Line Junction. Public
visiting the Naval ships are requested not to carry cameras and handbags. |

Sky Diving Demonstration on the second day: Indian Naval Adventure Sky Diving team of ten personnel demonstrated skills of thrilling and challenging Sky Diving activity at the Navy Mela Ground on the second consecutive day this evening. Lieutenant Commander Rajiv Ashok and his team members including
the lady officer, Lieutenant Rashmi Singh conducted jumps in two batches from a Seaking Helicopter operating at
a height of about 10,000 feet above the ground level and landed at the Navy Mela Ground in a skilful manner amidst large crowds and stalls. The team will proceed to Kochi for
a similar demonstration from 02nd to 04th December. |

Navy Mela: The five-day long Navy Mela which is presently going on at the Eastern Fleet Sports Ground near Pipe Line Junction here has also evoked large public response on the second day. Large crowds have converged at the venue for viewing the various types of weaponry, machines and the technological
developments in the Indian Navy. Over 15000 people visited the Mela today. Public have been evincing curiosity and
a great interest at the service stalls as well as those of the business houses. The timings of the navy Mela on Saturday and Sunday will be from
10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Monday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.. |

Navy Conducts Medical camp: The Naval establishment INS Kalinga, conducted a medical camp at Chepala Uppda village today and 397 fishermen and their families
members benefited from it. Apart from conducting free medical check-ups by the medical team led by the Principle Medical Officer, Surgeon Lieutenant Commander Rashmi
Pyasi of the naval establishment, medicines were also distributed The camp was inaugurated by Commodore
R.B.S. Bhadana, Commanding Officer of INS Kalinga. This was the second medical camp undertaken by the naval establishment in this month with an aim to reach out to the remote villages and render medical assistance to the needy public.
