Maharashtra Mandal has
taken the lead and happens to be very popular among the people of Visakhapatnam,
both in the city and in the rural areas.
The
facilities offered by the Mandal are used for weddings, exhibitions,
seminars, meetings and various other social and cultural functions. The Mandal also organizes welfare programmes like blood donation camps,
and conducts fundraising for disasters like
the Gujarat Earthquake. Besides, it organizes drawing and rangoli competitions,
offers training courses in dance and karate, provides education
for children and facilities to encourage sports among
the youth. Maharashtra Mandal has also felicitated people like the Hon. Minister
S. K. Patil in 1958, Defence Minister of India Y. B. Chavan in 1961,
great musicians like Padmashri Bhimsen Joshi, in 1992, Guinness Book record holder for one-man shows, Vice chancellor
of Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, Medha Patkar (Narmada Bachao Samiti Leader) in 2001 and Padmashri Asha
Bhosle in 2002, Maharashtra
Mandal extends its cooperation to the Blind School for Girls at Sagar Nagar, as well as to the T.B. Hospital in Visakhapatnam.
The Mandal also works in tandem with the Bharat Vikas Parishad and
has several welfare projects on the anvil in tandem with the
members of the bullion refinery workshops. |
