Training
:


Course content:

The course in General Nursing is of 31/2 years duration comprising:

  • Two years theory and practice in general nursing.

  • One year community health nursing and midwifery

  • Six Months internship.

Each student would need to devote a maximum of 36 hours per week, including instruction and clinical / field experience. 


Preliminary Period
:

During a preliminary period of 12 weeks, a student visits hospital wards for observation and supervised practice not exceeding 16 hours per week. A test will be taken in the 11th and 12th week to assess the student's ability to continue with the course. Only successful candidates are allowed to continue with the course.


Clinical Experience
:

Students get to observe and practice what they have learnt in the clinical area under careful supervision in King George Hospital, Visakhapatnam and other leading hospitals in the city.


Night Shifts
:

Students are under supervision of a registered nurse when assigned on night shifts. Such assignments are given only at the end of the first year and lasts through a total of eight weeks throughout the course.


Vacations/Holidays:

Thirty days vacation and ten days sick leave per year are allowed during the training period. Sick leave cannot be accumulated and carried over to the next year. Seven days preparatory leave is allowed every year before government examinations.
